Cities: Hang Tuah Jaya

Hang Tuah Jaya

Hang Tuah Jaya

A satellite city and administrative center of the state of Melaka, Hang Tuah Jaya was established back in 2010 as a planned city and was envisioned as a modern, sustainable and resilient economic hub of Melaka.

The Hang Tuah Jaya Municipal Council (MPHTJ) is committed to transforming a city of 190,529 people into a green city, with MPHTJ setting a carbon reduction goal of 665,000 tCO2e by 2030 and achieving a 45% reduction of Carbon per GDP.

Having identified the significant level of GHG produced by buildings, MPHTJ has made it compulsory for all developments to comply with rating certifications such as the Green Building Index (GBI), LEED, Green Star as well as the Melaka Green Seal – as stipulated under MPHTJ’s Hang Tuah Jaya Green City concept. A solar farm capable of generating over 8MW’s worth of electricity was also built under the same green city concept.

Reaching milestones, MPHTJ has set a major precedent among Malaysian local authorities when MPHTJ was awarded the LCCF Diamond Rating for their success in reducing over 434.26 tonnes worth of carbon footprint back in 2014, becoming the first ever local council to be accorded such an award.
