Here in Putrajaya, sustainable development practices have long been intertwined within the city’s history, as fitting of Putrajaya’s identity as a planned capital and Garden City. With over half of the city’s spaces designated as parks, water bodies and recreational areas, as well as the inclusion of a comprehensive pedestrian and cycling network, Putrajaya is pioneering sustainable living on a city-wide scale.
In line with the Malaysian Government’s call for advancing green growth for sustainability and resilience, Putrajaya Corporation (PJC) formulated a Green City action plan for Putrajaya, with the aim of developing Putrajaya into a Pioneer Township in Green Technology. This plan, known as Putrajaya Green City 2025, is revolutionizing the city through green initiatives in 7 focus areas;
● Integrating Nature into the Urban Fabric
● Planning and Building
● Transportation and Mobility
● Energy Usage
● Water Usage
● Solid Waste Management
● City Administration and Management
-with the aim of generating over 60% of city GHG emission reduction from the 2025 base level, reducing daytime peak temperature by 2°C, as well as cutting down total waste production by 50%.
PJC strives to cultivate wider green awareness among the younger generation via education facilities like Alam Flora’s FIKS; as well as the Reduce, Offset, Substitute & Enhance (GreenROSE) programme, which promotes and educate schoolchildren on the topic of climate change and its impacts.
